Womens Fitness- Low Carb - High Protein Diets

Womens Fitness explains the theories behind these diets.
Low carb- high fat diets will decrease your hunger and
weight by increasing your protein intake.

You are encouraged to eat meat, fruits and vegetables.
Carbohydrate foods as sugar and white flour are discouraged.

Discuss these diet choices with your physician as there may be
health problems associated with them.

                                             Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is well known as a low carb diet that allows a high protein, high fat diet within
guidelines.  The theory is that by severely restricting your carbohydrate intake, your body will have
to use extra fat deposits for energy.

This will produce ketones which should suppress your appetite.
This is called Ketosis.

On this diet, you will count carbohydrates instead of calories.
Stay away from white sugar and white flour.

There are 4 phases of the Atkins Program:  The first phase will last a minimum of
14 days and you will switch your body to burning mainly fat for energy instead of carbohydrates.

This is called the induction phase.  Look at the complete Atkins plan.

Atkins recommends large amounts of nutritional supplements as this diet can lead to
vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

You will also need to test your urine for ketones.

                                                       Suzanne Somers Diet

The Suzanne Somers’ Diet is high-protein, high-fat, low- carbohydrate.
The low-carbohydrate is the key to her diet success.

With her diet, you should not eat proteins and fats with carbohydrates.
Fruit should be eaten alone.

The good part is that you do not count calories or control your portions.
The key is to eat all the right foods in the right combination.

Her plan has two levels, weight loss and maintenance.

There is caution in her diet as eating unlimited amounts of fat can lead to increased
risk of heart disease.

On the good side, you have control over your portions although she recommends
eating only until you are comfortable.

                                                           Zone Diet

The Zone Diet is a high- protein low-carbohydrate diet where meat, fruits,
and vegetables are prominent.

The recommended food ratio is 40% carbohydrate, 30% protein and 30% fat.

Zone Food Blocks are used to show the amount of carbohydrate, protein or
fat to be eaten.

The Zone diet recommends not eating most common carbohydrates.

Almost all fruits and vegetables are allowed.  Small portions of low-fat protein meet
and fish are recommended with every meal.  They recommend a high-dose fish oil.
